What happens to my parents house if they go into care?

When an individual goes into care, their property and possessions are usually looked after by their relatives or friends. However, if there is no one available to do this, the local authority may step in and take control of the property. This usually happens when the individual is unable to manage their own affairs, or when their health deteriorates to the point where they are unable to live independently.

In most cases, the local authority will sell the property and use the proceeds to pay for the individual’s care. However, they may also allow the individual to remain in their home, if it is deemed to be in their best interests.
