How often does the care certificate need to be renewed?

The care certificate is a set of standards that social care workers in England must meet in order to demonstrate their competence in the role. It is a replacement for the Common Induction Standards and was introduced in April 2015.

The care certificate is made up of 15 standards and covers topics such as communication, personal development, equality and diversity, and safeguarding. Social care workers must complete all 15 standards before they can be considered fully competent in the role.

Although the care certificate is not a legal requirement, most employers will expect social care workers to have completed it before they start working in the role.

The care certificate is valid for three years and must be renewed every three years to ensure that social care workers stay up to date with best practice.
