As a self-employed carer, do I need to register with the CQC?

If you are self-employed and providing care services in England, you must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This is so that you can demonstrate that you are meeting the essential standards of quality and safety.

You can apply for registration with the CQC online. Once you have registered, you will be given a registration number which you must display prominently in your place of business.

If you are employed by an agency or other organisation, they will be responsible for registering you with the CQC. You should check with your employer to make sure that they have done this.

If you are providing care services without being registered with the CQC, you may be breaking the law and could be prosecuted.
